Hello World!
Welcome to my little corner of the internet! Well this blog is a long time coming, but here's to hoping it makes a difference in the life of someone who's reading!
So this is me: My name is Abi, I'm a senior at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT and am studying Public Health with an emphasis in Health Promotion as well as a minor in International Development. I have plans still to get my Associates in Nursing and then my Masters in Midwifery. I love maternal and child health, especially in an international setting. I'm super outgoing and love meeting new people, doing new things, and trying new foods. When I'm not studying or working on research I like to swim, rock climb, do ashtanga yoga, and row!
Why the beautiful
compensations: Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “It is one of the most beautiful
compensations of this life is that no man can sincerely help another without
helping himself!” I want to say first
and foremost that I chose to study public health out of complete unselfishness,
wanting only to serve my fellow men. I
also don’t think I fully understood that service could bless your life when I
chose my major as a silly sophomore, not that I do now either… but that’s what
life is for!
After studying specifically international maternal-child
health, I have begun to recognize that I will be lucky enough to be blessed
doubly so! Not only will I see the
beautiful blessings that come from working with and serving mothers and their
children all over the globe, but I also will get to spend the rest of my life
traveling and seeing all of this beautiful earth that I can! Literally though, every day of school or work
feels like my best day ever! But it
would be selfish of me not to share my experiences through my stories,
pictures, and videos so that’s what this little blog is for… and hopefully
something I post inspires you to take action!
Hopefully I inspire you to find ways you can serve someone, but if its
to travel somewhere I’ve been I’ll count that too… this earth is huge and
filled with so many cool places, I believe that God created this Earth just for
you to enjoy and live on so it would seem such a waste of all His work if you
didn’t choose experience all that you could… right?
So I hope you will join me in choosing to serve and travel
or serve and travel all that you can.
Because one of the most beautiful compensations is that not only are you
helping the person you serve… you’re helping you too!
My Work Now: Currently, I am working as an intern and project leader with
HELP International in Suva Fiji. I am
working specifically on a project in conjunction with the World Health
Organization (WHO) and the Fiji Ministry of Health working to integrate more
physical activity into kids’ school days.
